You thought this was a political post--and that I was going to talk about the phenomenon of the rise of Senator Bernie Sanders, running for POTUS?
Nope. It's a garden post ... primarily ... pun intended.
February, especially if there is a little snow cover, is for burning ornamental grasses. That is my rule. Well, today is the last day of February--a bonus day in this leap year--and it was time to feel the burn!
This act of pyro-optics took place at friend O.'s house this morning. It was wet from yesterday's rain, and a little windy, but yet, it was almost as safe to burn as when there is snow cover. We had some trouble getting the wet grasses started--but oh, the thrill when they finally burst into full flames!
My understanding is that this burning is technically illegal in the city (we heard a fire truck coming our way and were briefly concerned), but burning is an ideal method of cleaning up the dead grasses. With a good burn, all that is left is a little black ash, which disintegrates and enriches the soil.
It is likely that the heat of the Sanders campaign will likewise soon flame out and be but a blip (poof?) in the ash heap of history. The old "democratic" socialist will likely soon return to the dust of the earth as well.
Tomorrow is Super Tuesday and we will see if Bernie can hang on for awhile longer before the burn cools--his flame finally stomped out by the inevitable HILLARY campaign machine. And we will see if the one with the wild flaming mane and the orange face will again have a HUGE win. Trump pronounces it like Bernie-both New Yorkers. Hillary can put on a southern accent but I have never (thankfully) heard her attempt a New York accent.
FYI - No eyebrows were singed in the making of this post.
